“Just as search engines have transformed how we access information, other forms of big-data computing can and will transform the activities of companies, scientific researchers, medical practitioners, and our nation’s defense and intelligence operations.” (Randal E. Bryant, Katz, Lazowska, 2008)
By applying public data technology to private and relatively small data sets, information can be made available to the owners and not just the custodians of the information. Removing the need for data base designers and programmers, search centric cloud based applications are able to find and extract more or less anything that is required. By mixing a combination of programming languages, noSql and other data stores with software driven; compute, storage and network resources, information can be gained by the individual and the business themselves processing their own data. In this way they will be able to not just manage their own data but also be able to use it. By exposing private data to a set of tools that everyone is familiar with, searching and sorting the data becomes more and more meaningful at the individual and the business level.
